Yes, GTA VI will let you enter far more buildings than GTA V. But the famous “700 interiors” figure has never been confirmed by Rockstar: it comes from aggregator sites, not the studio. What’s solid comes down to the official trailers and the only authenticated leak. And the real leap? Rockstar already made it back in 2018.
What the trailers show, with no loading screen
Before any rumor, there’s the footage Rockstar itself put out. Both GTA VI trailers regularly place the camera inside the environments. Jason lives in a stilt house in Key Lento, built over the water to ride out hurricanes, complete with a boat dock and a snake in a terrarium in the living room. We follow Jason and Lucia dancing in the NINE1NINE club, then through a full robbery of the Sinfrontera National Bank, right in the heart of Vice City. Boobie Ike, the local big shot who runs the Jack of Hearts strip club, shows up in a private back room where a wad of cash and a pistol are lying around.
The common thread across these shots: no cut, no loading screen as you step through the door. That’s precisely what the in-house engine, RAGE, is designed to do, streaming the environment continuously. So these interiors sit at the Confirmed level, because they come straight from the official videos.
GTA V: the invisible-walls generation
If the topic sparks so much passion, it’s because of a frustration thirteen years in the making. GTA V, back in 2013, only let you into a handful of interiors: your safehouses, Ammu-Nation gun stores, a few clothing shops, the barber, the tattoo parlor, and a string of places open only for the length of a mission. Everything else was a facade, a texture slapped onto an invisible collision box behind the door.
The most telling proof came from modders: they unlocked around thirty interiors that Rockstar had indeed modeled and then sealed off, from a fast-food joint to a hospital room. The studio had built them for its missions, without ever making them freely accessible. That choice fed the game’s longevity on the online side, but it left a gorgeous, oddly closed-off map, though that never stopped GTA V from holding strong since 2013.
Red Dead Redemption 2, the real milestone crossed in 2018
To guess what Rockstar is cooking up, the right reference isn’t GTA V, it’s Red Dead Redemption 2. As early as 2018, you could enter stores, farms and back rooms, and above all you could rob almost anything: every general store hid a safe or a scheme in the back, and you could hold up a doctor as easily as a train, a stagecoach or an isolated house.
This “every place has an interior, and most interiors hide something” logic is the real signature Leonida should inherit. Rockstar no longer builds environments to look at, but spaces to rummage through, as shown by the thousand tiny details of Red Dead Redemption 2.
The 2022 leak and the “700 interiors” myth
This is where the legend runs wild. The September 2022 leak is the only major leak Rockstar has ever authenticated on Grand Theft Auto VI: the studio acknowledged a “network intrusion” that exposed development footage of its next game. Those clips already showed Lucia robbing a store, entering the shop with an action prompt, surrounded by NPCs that reacted.
From those same development files came the figures that now circulate as gospel: roughly 40% of large buildings would be enterable, every small shop would be too, with partially destructible windows and doors. Mind the level of this information: it’s leaked data, not a Rockstar spec sheet. As for the famous “700 interiors confirmed by Rockstar” plastered all over the place, it’s misleading. The studio has published no count, and its official page carries not a trace of it. The 700 is a community estimate, to be handled as such, just like the other GTA 6 leaks you have to sort between solid and bogus.
What the leak hints at goes beyond a simple visit: entering a place also means being able to rob it, hide in it or kick off a shootout inside. It’s that continuity between the street and the interior that will make GTA VI’s heist system believable, and give Vice City’s late-night stores their full meaning.
While we wait for the next trailer and any further details from Rockstar, the conclusion fits in one sentence: GTA VI will open far more doors than GTA V, but no one, not even the sites flashing the number, knows the exact total. For the official calendar, everything hinges on the November 19, 2026 release date.
We’re keeping an eye on every door that opens. Alfred, GTA Zone.
