Can you customize Jason and Lucia in GTA 6? Outfits, tattoos, weapons: what's confirmed for GTA VI and what the series' legacy points to.

Rockstar hasn’t detailed a customization menu yet, but one thing is certain: Jason and Lucia are fixed protagonists, shown in dozens of outfits. Given the legacy of San Andreas, RDR2 and GTA Online, we’re expecting a deep wardrobe, tattoo and style system in GTA VI.

Jason and Lucia: Written Protagonists With an Ever-Changing Style

Grand Theft Auto VI sticks to the rule GTA V set: you don’t play as an avatar built from scratch, but as two written characters, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, confirmed by Rockstar on its official page. No GTA Online-style character creator in the campaign, then. Across the two trailers and the seventy official screenshots, though, the duo swaps outfits constantly: Jason in a beach tank top and cap, Lucia in a leather jacket, in workout gear, or even in an orange prison jumpsuit. That’s no staging coincidence, it’s the sign of an open wardrobe, in the vein of GTA V’s three leads, who each had their own closet, haircuts and tattoos. All of it is powered by the RAGE engine, whose rendering of fabrics and materials has taken a huge leap since 2013.

From CJ to Arthur: Twenty Years of Customization at Rockstar

To guess what GTA VI has in store, you have to look at how far the series has come. The big leap dates back to 2004: San Andreas made CJ the most customizable character in the saga, with haircuts at the barber, tattoos at the parlor, clothing stores and, above all, a weight and muscle system that responded to diet and exercise. GTA IV (2008) narrowed things down to clothing alone. GTA V (2013) gave each of its three leads their own wardrobe, plus haircuts and tattoos. Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) pushed realism all the way: hair and beard that grow in real time and get trimmed at the barber, outfits that matter depending on the weather, mud and blood on your clothes. And GTA Online turned all of it into an economy, where millions of virtual dollars get poured into style. GTA VI inherits this whole stack.

Gym, Tattoos, Haircuts: What the Legacy Points To

On paper, Leonida is the dream backdrop to bring back the whole toolkit: tattoo culture in Vice City, gyms, beaches where bodies are on display. Fans see it as a possible return of the barber, the tattoo parlor and even a San Andreas-style fitness system. The most-cited clue is still an official screenshot of Lucia training on the heavy bag, gloved and sweating. Plenty to fuel the theories, with one caveat: Rockstar hasn’t confirmed any gameplay effect tied to body size or training. File it under pending, not certain.

Trailer 2 sums up the stakes nicely: you see Jason and Lucia run through one look after another, from beaches to clubs, a sign that plenty of outfit variety is already baked into the game.

Outfits, Jewelry and Weapons: What the Ultimate Edition Already Locks In

Beyond the guesswork, part of the customization is in black and white, and it’s even behind a paywall. The Ultimate Edition unlocks open-world businesses exclusive to this version: a hair salon (Sara’s Unisex Salon), a tattoo parlor and a clothing store (Stock 305), on top of two mod shops and a collection of premium vehicles, weapons and outfits. So part of your character’s look is tucked behind a $99.99 edition. Alongside that, any pre-order placed before November 20, 2026 unlocks the Vintage Vice City Pack, a bundle in old Vice City colors with vintage outfits for Jason and Lucia, while digital pre-orders add a month of GTA+. In other words, Rockstar is already monetizing style before launch, just as it did for ten years with GTA Online. It’s the first time single-player customization spots have been placed behind a paid edition, a sore point for some players, as we break down in our deep dive on the Ultimate Edition’s paywalled content.

Until the official menus arrive, here’s the bottom line: customization is coming back, just without a character creator in single-player. To go further, check whether you’ll be able to switch between Jason and Lucia like in GTA V, get acquainted with the protagonist duo, and measure how far we’ve come since CJ in our San Andreas vs GTA V comparison.

FAQ

Can you create your own character in GTA 6?

No. The single-player mode of GTA VI puts you in the shoes of two written characters, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, both confirmed by Rockstar. There's no GTA Online-style character creator in the campaign, and that will likely be reserved for the future online mode.

Will you be able to change Jason and Lucia's clothes?

Almost certainly. Both leads appear in a huge range of outfits across the trailers and official screenshots, in the tradition of GTA V, where each protagonist had their own wardrobe. Rockstar hasn't shown the menu yet, but dressing up your character is a series staple.

Will GTA 6 have a gym like San Andreas?

It's not confirmed. San Andreas (2004) let CJ gain muscle or fat depending on his diet and workouts. Lucia is shown boxing in an official gym shot, which has reignited the theories, but Rockstar hasn't confirmed any physical-fitness mechanic.

What does the Ultimate Edition include for customization?

On the style side, it unlocks businesses exclusive to this edition: a hair salon (Sara's Unisex Salon), a tattoo parlor and a clothing store (Stock 305), on top of two mod shops and a collection of premium vehicles, weapons and outfits. On top of that, any pre-order placed before November 20, 2026 unlocks the Vintage Vice City Pack, and digital pre-orders add a month of GTA+.
